On Wednesday, October 17th, United Colors of Fashion (UCOF) hosted a beautiful evening with its third season’s anniversary fashion benefit at the Museum of the City of New York. Ciano Clerjuste, president of the organization, holds these wonderful events in hopes to bring more attention to children with AIDS in Africa and the youth all over the world.
The women and men who attended were all dressed to impress and the designers blew everyone away. Sandi Bass, the Casting Director for United Colors of Fashion Gala 2012, stood up with Miss J. Alexander and spoke on how meaningful the event was. They told the audience that this was an event put on by people who were volunteering their own time.
“All the models, make up and hair artists are doing this for free. New York models are very busy, they are doing this to help,” Bass stated.
The 2012 Honorary Chair and well known photographer Nigel Barker spoke about how important every penny was to this wonderful organization. His words were moving and a perfect way to open the show. There were seven designers from around the world showing their spring/summer 2013 collections. Soucha from Egypt started the show off, followed by Anya Ayoung-Chee, the winner of “Project Runway” Season 9 from Trinidad, Carla Silva from Angola, Sheldon Kopman from South Africa, and Style Butler from Denmark. David Tlale closed the show with the most beautiful white collection. The night was filled with giving energy and a community gathering of the fashion world, with the hope of helping others.
